Recognised for her tireless efforts working for women living with HIV in Aotearoa, PWI’s National Coordinator Jane Bruning, was awarded the distinction of becoming an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) on August 16, 2017. Dedicated to destigmatising a positive diagnosis and raising awareness about the key issues faced by women and their families who are affected by HIV, Jane has given countless women hope, support and encouragement via the work done here at PWI. It has been this unflinching resolve to better empower the voice of women living with HIV that has made Jane such a symbol of powerful female franchise for the HIV community in Aotearoa.
Jane has been PWI’s National Coordinator since 2004, steering the organisation towards a path of advocacy and unwavering support for all members. Her efforts have also resulted in the creation of the Positive Speakers’ Bureau (PSB), a platform that gives women and men living with HIV a chance to share their personal stories with the public, dispelling myths and falsehoods surrounding the diagnosis. We’re super stoked that our National Coordinator has received such top honour!
