Kia Ora. We are still in the spirit of the new year, I hope you all had some rest and a smooth transition to the new year. I really enjoyed taking 2 weeks off to spend time with my family, unwinding after what was undoubtedly a year of uncertainty.
Again, this year the first board meeting was timed to coincide with the Auckland Big Gay Out. The Board reflected on what is next and the future of Positive Women. We discussed how we can properly incorporate Te Tiriti o Waitangi. There were many women affected from the Covid-19 Impact survey, it was great seeing that they felt they could rely on PWI for support.
2020 showed us different ways to connect with each other, in saying this the board meeting confirmed to me the value of face to face meetings and the significance of extensive knowledge sharing and quality time spent with each other. Exciting news, Luca is staying on as chair and is looking forward to co-chair with the next candidate for the second half of 2021.
Big Gay Out this year was amazing; the Board members enjoyed the beautiful day relaxing at the Lounge + setup. I very much enjoyed the diversity in connections, conversations and people present. The event ended beautifully, however the same cannot be said about the day, there was an announcement that Auckland was heading back to L3 while the rest of the country to move up to L2. We have been here before and I know how resilient PWI and its members are. I would highlight the national message to choose kindness and check on each other.
