National Coordinator August update

Kia ora,

Another two months have passed since the last update and life still feels strangely surreal. Even more so after lock-down as things appear normal, but they are far from it.

At Positive Women Inc. we have survived the initial chaos relatively unscathed however the future remains precarious. The Ministry of Health are looking to cut funding and we are uncertain how our other regular funders will navigate the current economic climate. Like many organisations, we remain in a holding pattern with fingers crossed.

We have been busy though. We used the past few months to work on our ‘HIV Essentials’, online course and developing a new website for the Positive Speakers Bureau. We encourage you to check these out, do the course and share it with as many people as you can. Read more about both by clicking here

The Positive Women Inc. AGM was a Zoom affair this year. Not surprisingly, a smaller than usual turn-out, but you can read the annual report by clicking here

We are currently working on a resource aimed to support people living with HIV for when they need to tell a new “friend”, they have HIV. A number of our members have asked for such a resource as disclosing to someone new, can be very scary. Members said having something tangible, with information in plain language which can be given to the other person, would be very helpful. The resource will be released in September 2020.

Our Social Worker, Marietta, is working with members of the Starship Hospital and the Community HIV Team (CHIV), on a website for teens living with HIV. We hope to launch this in October so watch this space.

Until next time, we wish you health, wealth and happiness.

Warm regards Jane
